My Little Girl’s Scheme

It has always been difficult for me to dress Zoe my way. At an early age Zoe has expressed herself in more ways than one, and has declared hatred for clothes that are frilly AND girley. She prefers to dress like her dad (in her shirt and shorts getup), talk about being tomboy-ish. Anyway, I bask on some of my glory days when she agrees, hesitantly I must say, to wear what I want her to wear. Yesterday was one of those days. I’ve been wanting to let her wear this turquoise Gap sleeveless preggy top to no avail. She finally conceded yesterday but said she will bring with her an extra shirt. I always tell her she can bring an extra shirt of her choice in case she needs to change when she’s all sweaty. More often than not, she doesn’t get to wear the extra naman. She picked up a white crew neck shirt with the writing My Dad Rocks on the front. Talk about being a daddy’s girl, haha. Hubby already started the car’s engine and turned on the aircon so we’d be comfortable when we’d get in. We haven’t even stepped out of the house when Zoe blurted out to her dad in a scolding tone, “Why did you turn on the aircon already? I need to be pawis so I can change into my extra shirt!” Schemie, schemie, schemie!

Rainy Days and Wednesdays

I’ve neglected my blog lately because i’ve been swamped with work. Ang work, sagabal sa blogging, haha. Kidding aside, after my first trimester, I’ve felt like I’ve gotten my second wind and I’m not that lazy and woozy anymore. Now at least I get to be more productive. I HAVE to be, considering the cost of giving birth! I don’t experience much nausea either, although I still get bloated once in awhile but that’s because my appetite is back with a vengeance and i’ve started eating more than ever. Scary, especially when everyone’s noticing how big my tummy is for someone who’s just 4 months pregnant! Got to take it slow!

I still have tons of files for copyediting and here I am, still at home in my PJs, blogging. Well, I’ve got an excuse, it’s still raining strong outside and I’m a lousy driver when it’s raining. Actually, I’m always a lousy driver, rain or shine : ) My parking is another story.

Don’t you just love it when it’s raining? Everything seems to slow down…you get to find time for that cup of coffee or that mug of hot cocoa, and you linger in bed longer than usual, staying buried under the sheets. Today was also the perfect time to open that Zaragoza bottle of sardines, and Zoe craved for bottled “crab”, which is actually taba ng talangka or crab paste, with rice. Yummy! Connie’s Kitchen gourmet tuyo is also the perfect rainy-day food for me. Darn, I don’t have it here right now. Isn’t it obvious how my appetite is really on the comeback? I’ve been thinking of food 24/7! But I’ve got to watch my weight. As much as possible I’m still going for the goal, and that’s to give birth, for the second time, naturally. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that everything will go smoothly.

The rain has stopped now, which means I have to be in wok mode, este work mode. Till my next post…
Have a lovely rainiy day everyone!

Got to Believe in Magic

My daughter Zoe has always been defiant when it’s time for her afternoon nap. I was suffering from one of my migraine attacks which seem to come and go especially now that I’m pregnant, so in a desperate attempt to make Zoe take a nap with me, I decided to use some magic. Well, pretend is the word.

Me: Abracadabra, Zoe is going to fall asleep (which matching hand actions!).

Zoe: Abropodabro, make my mom not let me take a nap!

She used countermagic on me AND she won! She told me she was hungry for carrot sticks. I always rejoice when she’s asking for veggies so I let her get some (although it turned out to be a ploy coz I found out she never asked for carrots, but ate porridge instead). Lesson learned: never rely on fake magic. Any magic wands out there for sale?

Answer this question please

In an effort to explain to Zoe, who can be so headstrong that she prefers to do things without any help, I told her this…

Me: Zoe, you know, sometimes mommy has to teach you the proper way to do things. The proper way to brush your teeth, the proper way to eat and hold your spoon, the proper way to color.

Zoe: But I like to teach myself!

Me: But sometimes you have to let grown-ups teach you so you will learn.

Zoe: Why not young-ups?

And to think I will be homeschooling the kid…ayayay…

Sky’s the Limit

Yesterday was officially hubby’s first day out of his office for 11 years. For those who didn’t know, hubby bid goodbye to the workplace silently as he begins a new journey in his new office (well, sort of)…a cockpit. No, he won’t be flying the big jets yet, but he’ll be flying just the same. He’ll be flying a Cessna two-seater, a plane which fellow pilots fondly call a flying soda can. You’d know why after you’ve been inside the cockpit. Believe me when I say a car doesn’t make me feel as cramped. He’d do anything to fly and feel the wind… and I knew, sooner or later, that sitting in front of a PC all day wasn’t exactly his calling.

Suddenly, the sentimental bug hits me. You see, despite my many rantings about the company hubby and I have worked with for the past 10 years (11 years for hubby), I’ve grown to love the comfort of the workplace. That AND the many memories we planted there. It was at work that hubby and I crossed paths 10 years ago, where we *sigh* fell in love, and where we made a living. Surprisingly, despite being together at home, going to work in one car, working on the same team and sometimes even sitting beside each other at work, we never grew tired of each other’s company. Sure we had our spats, which I’m sure our officemates would notice once in awhile, but they were healthy spats that ended up as quick as they started. I’d surely miss the car rides to and from work, those merienda breaks for our walang-kamatayan lumpiang shanghai and tokwa (sans the pork), and those moments in the middle of work when one of us would remember something to tell the other about home, business, or Zoe. So many things to miss, but I’m thankful for the memories and I’m elated that hubby is getting closer and closer to his dream. From the time he started pursuing his dream, he made it clear to me that his dream was our dream together, and mushy and biblical as it may sound, wherever he goes, I follow.
We’re both excited on the journey ahead, uncertain where the road will lead us, but we’re comforted knowing God is there to guide us every step of the way. To hubby, you’ve come a long way, hunny! I’ve been witness to how badly he wanted to fly…despite the many setbacks. Even an engine failure 300 feet up in the air, which resorted in an emergency landing in the ricefields of Bulacan, did not deter him at all. It’s no joke the time, money, and effort that he put into it, and I truly admire him for this. One of the lessons I learned from hubby was nothing is impossible when you put your mind, heart, and soul to it. Dear friends, I’m sharing with you a slideshow I made for hubby. Pardon the amateurish creation : )
